My favorite thing about boating / rafting is this...

First, the solitude of the river canyons in which we travel. As I float through the canyons I can't help but marvel at the majestic landscape and become bewildered at the forces of energy and magnitude of the time it took to create such beautiful places.

Secondly, the pure energy of the water is just awesome. Growing up in Chicago I never fathomed myself navigating through Class IV - V rapids and being able to move in synergy with the currents of mother nature.

I'd have to say there is no better feeling in the world (besides fatherhood) than dropping in on a huge Class IV - V rapid at 8000 CFS; staring down the canyon at monstrous holes and giant waves big enough to stop a mack truck and knowing there is a navigable passage through and having the skills to do it successfully!

Favorite thing about boating.....The evening time on the river.
One experience I had was this; I was checking that the boats were tied up etc, just before sunset. I saw a form in the river- it was an enormous sturgeon. It raised it's large prehistoric looking-head and looked at me.This was on the rogue abou 20 years ago. I will never forget it.

Hello Everyone...

I have never had the pleasure of rafting...But....if any of you are familiar with "43 things" website (this is where you post what you want to do before you leave this earth) This is one of the things at the top of my list. I do however go out on the river a few times a year to fish & hike (Stanislaus, near Bear Valley) Beautiful country. I keep saying I will be going and I predict this year will be the year!!! Can't wait!!! Happy Rafting Everyone.... Patty Sanders....Fremont California.
