Hike and Raft: Perfect American River Weekend

Here’s another cool opportunity for an affordable, fun weekend that will get you outside and enjoying both California rafting and hiking.

The American River Conservancy is hosting a free, guided hike on the Rubicon River August 2nd.  It’s a moderate, eight mile hike, so even if you aren’t a power-lifter or tri-athlete, it should be fun, not a grueling endurance test.  It’s suitable for kids too, so it would be a great family day.  The hike is on Saturday August 2nd, leaving the 3rd open for a rafting trip on the South Fork American.  If you’re looking for more excitement than class III, you could also check out the Middle Fork, which is class IV and offers more river miles as well.  Our white water trips are always priced lower on Sundays, so combined with the free hike, this could be an affordable but rich and fun weekend.  For more information on the Rubicon hike, check out the ARC website.  And, speaking of saving some dough on a rafting trip, check out our the latest list of discounted “web specials” for the best values on California rafting trips.
