Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
Posted March 8, 2006 by Robyn SuddethWho knew that our prayers, dances for the snow gods, and luck would all pay off?! March has started out exactly like we all hoped it would– with lots of snow and cold weather! In the immediate future, we’re all excited about finally getting some powder days in at our favorite Sierra Nevada ski resorts. But this is even better news for rafting season a few months from now.
Thanks to these lattest flurries, the American River drainage is back up to somewhere around 90% of its long-term average, and the Tuolumne and Merced drainages are doing even better– both hovering at about 110% of their long-term averages. (See Determining Flow Predictions for Spring 2006 to read about how these numbers are calculated.) And the snow just keeps falling! I took a look at the weather forecast today and snow is expected in the Lake Tahoe region all the way through Tuesday.
(If you can’t tell I’m pretty near ecstatic about all this.) Next time people tell me that my dances to the snow gods just make me look like a ridiculous lunatic, I’ll point at those white mountains and jump up and down and show them who’s the lunatic.
We’ll have a more complete report on expected flows in early April, so all you fellow believers– keep up the good work!
