If you’re planning a rafting trip on the American River anywhere between this upcoming Friday and Monday, you couldn’t have picked a better weekend! Between the Blues Festival, American River Rendezvous, and the Trailfest, there’s plenty of entertainment before and after you get on the river.

Here’s a short description and links to all upcoming festivities on the South Fork American River:

Coloma Blues Live! Saturday, June 10

Enjoy live blues music, good food, and locally brewed beers and wines in this all-day blues festival in Heningson Lotus Park, on the shores of the American River. Performers include Elvin Bishop, Angela Strehli, Mick Martin & the Blues Rockers, and the Mighty Mark Schermer Band. Music starts at 11 am.

American River Rendezvous Monday, June 12

An educational seminar about the American River Watershed. Spend a few hours getting to know local guides and community members, learning about a broad range of topics, from Native American Folklore to the FERC re-licsensing process. 9 am to 4 pm. Lunch provided by local restaurants and Jamba Juice.

Trailfest Monday, June 12

An annual event, held for the last few years by the American River Conservancy to raise money for an American River Trail System. The event includes live music by numerous bands, dancing, games and face-painting for kids, an auction, great food, and plenty of beverages. (One of the best events I went to last season– definitely worth the ticket price! Plus, you’re giving money towards a great cause; preserving land along the American River.)

See you out there… And if you haven’t yet decided on when to take that springtime high water rafting trip on the South Fork, take advantage of a fun weekend and come out now!
