Fall in the Foothills

A little wine tasting anyone?  One of the best reasons to come up for a little American River rafting this time of year–aside from warm weather, privacy on the river, and beautiful changing colors–is you can kick off your squishy river shoes at the end of the day, change into somethin’ swanky and head out for a little wine tasting in the afternoon or the day after your trip.  This time of year El Dorado county’s award-winning wineries are in full glory, with the vines starting to turn russet and beautiful bunches of grapes begging to be picked…..

If you’re staying in the Coloma-Lotus Valley and want to stay local, check out David Girard, Venezio, or Gold Hill Winery–all of which are literally about five minutes from our home base on the South Fork of the American River.  Staying in Placerville?  Head to Apple Hill, buy a pie and bottle of dessert wine and get lost in a little hedonism!  You paddled hard on the river all day so you earned it, right?
